A big meal, red wine, chocolate, a cold and cold medicine generally lead me to one thing: a sleepless night. Good morning. What's a sewist to do when awake at 3:00 am? I went window shopping...

Happy Valentine's Day, Dear Readers! My hometown of Spartanburg, SC has gone all out putting hearts on the lampposts and red dye in the fountain :) I finished my new shirt just in time for the big day. This lightweight cotton from Five Eighth Seams caught my eye with its floral explosion, and I was smitten after seeing the Monet quote printed along the selvage. ;) As I've mentioned before, I thought button down shirts were not for me until I returned to sewing and became dedicated to fitting myself. Now I love them. I cannot think of a single place where I can buy a...
Many readers asked about the Marcy Tilton Leggings I was wearing in the last post. Believe it or not, they are the first pair of leggings I've sewn. I bought several yards of a polyester two-way stretch fabric at Mood Fabrics in 2013, some of which I used it for the inserts in this dress in October. When her clothes began to wear out she bought wonderful cotton fabrics from the markets and made herself...

A few days ago FedEx delivered a surprise package from my Aunt Maggie. I received my first surprise package from Aunt Maggie at age 7; a large box filled with homemade Barbie clothes including a wedding dress! Through the years Aunt Maggie tastefully perfected her hobbies of sewing, crafting, cooking and home decorating to impressive heights, and I've known very few people to be as talented, industrious and thoughtful as she is. You might guess an unexpected package from Aunt Maggie is a good thing, and my anticipations swelled when a gorgeous piece of virgin wool popped out upon opening the tightly...
