01 Mar Red-Eye Shopping and a Pattern Giveaway
A big meal, red wine, chocolate, a cold and cold medicine generally lead me to one thing: a sleepless night.
Good morning.
What’s a sewist to do when awake at 3:00 am? I went window shopping…. electronic style. After visiting my inspiration stores, I hit the pattern sites and now I’m eagerly awaiting for 10:00 am to arrive so I can fulfill my fantasies.
The following caught my eye and I’d love to know what’s on your list this Spring😊
Vogue 8665 – Designed for knits and woven, I love everything about this.
Vogue 9133 – I’m looking for a jacket to embroider. No seams to get in the way.
Vogue 8957 – I need more Boleros! …… especially after seeing the Oscar de la Rentas for $$$$$$$
Vogue 9151 – Love the back yoke and color blocking options!
McCall’s 7724 – lots of sleeve variations with this pattern, and lots of inspiration photos on Neiman Marcus and Saks etc…. websites
McCall’s 7715 I’m not sure what I like about this but it made the list.
McCall’s 7430 – side panels and no side seams. Love this!
McCall’s 7240 a pattern for knits. What I like is the back seam that will provide a controlled fit.
McCall’s 7036 -very flattering rushing with attractive hem and sleeve options.
Butterick 6448 – this pattern is similar to many dresses I’ve seen on the Neiman Marcus and Saks websites. I especially love the raised waistline.
Butterick 6562 – Cute; trying to decide if it’s me.
Butterick 6571 – Love the V-neck and dress option, and the fact this is a fitted cold shoulder.
Butterick 6316 – just enough skirt flair
Butterck 6495 – It’s a maybe, but the neckline is pretty.
Many thanks to The McCall Pattern Company for supporting the 2018 RTW FASTERS with a monthly pattern giveaway!
Congratulations to today’s lucky winner – Faster #490
To claim your prize, please send your contact information to goodbyevalentino@gmail.com by Saturday, March 3 or a new winner will be selected.

Posted at 07:21h, 01 MarchDear Sarah, I know that 3am feeling very well! I hope you quickly recover from your cold. I love your pattern choices…. Some very much indeed and will now go and check them out more fully. The bolero is a must… It is so like the one from the outfit I wore to my sons wedding a few years ago… It was Belgian designer, Linea Raphaelli. My main goal this year is to perfect my fitting techniques by following Suzy Furrer’s craftsy classes to get a well fitting sloper which I can use to adjust patterns. Losing some weight would help but it seems to be so attached to me. Loving the fast and thank you for the inspiration.

Posted at 07:51h, 01 MarchThanks for the comment, Mary Anne! So glad you’re enjoying the fast 😊

Posted at 07:31h, 01 MarchIt’s the ruffles Sarah, you said you didn’t know what attracts you about that blouse, but they had you at ruffles, then cemented the deal with the cold shoulder.
Personally I love some of the fit and flare dresses. Why wait until 10? Aren’t you a member of BMV? They just ended a sitewide sale, will probably have another in a few days. Vogue are $5.19 for BMV members during their very frequent sales.
I haven’t purchased that book yet, so am def in for the next giveaway! Loving the Fast,

Posted at 07:49h, 01 MarchLOL – it must be the ruffles! I’m going to buy a couple of the patterns pronto to get started and will order the rest 😉

Posted at 10:05h, 01 MarchI love the McCall 7186 surplice dress. I think you found the pattern for me that I have been visualizing as a top. Do you have a favorite raglan sleeve jacket pattern?
goodbyevalentino
Posted at 05:59h, 02 MarchI love that pattern too and it was once a favorite design for J McLaughlin. I do not have a raglan sleeve jacket to recommend, as I ofter feel overwhelmed in the raglan sleeve, but I love it. on practically everyone else!

Posted at 10:19h, 01 MarchMy quick browse here turned into 5 (!) new dress ideas for me. I wear mostly wrap styles and have been longing for a few dresses with cleaner lines. Simple knit dresses, empire waists, fit and flare design…what more could a dress lover like me ask for? Thanks so much, Sarah. Can’t wait to see what you decide to make next.

Posted at 05:59h, 02 MarchWe sound like kindred spirits, Melissa! Have fun 😊

Posted at 10:26h, 01 MarchI can see you wearing all of these dresses and tops- even at 3 am! I hope you get a chance for a nice nap sometime today; there’s nothing like a nap to help get rid of a cold! After making 2 wader tops myself this week (see my blog -creating embellishment.com ) I have decided to concentrate on making a pair of pants that fit me. I keep making tops and dress for my “dress-up life” but really I wear pants 24/7, even when I do dress up; time to make clothes for my real life. Wish me luck! xo, E

Posted at 06:02h, 02 MarchYOU – wadders?……. I don’t believe it! I’ll wish you luck, Ellen, but know you’ll have these garments mastered in no time😊😊

Posted at 10:39h, 01 MarchThe McCAll 7715 is an interesting dress but the line drawings sure are different from the finished garment shown on that model. The line drawings look fitted, the finished garment looks flowy and I don’t think it’s because of fabric choice. And the model seems to be putting her hand in a pocket, which is shown nowhere on the line drawings. Hmmmmm.

Posted at 11:25h, 01 MarchYou are quite observant! The description says that the fitted version has pockets, but the picture with a hand in the pocket doesn’t seem all that fitted.

Posted at 06:03h, 02 MarchI noticed that too. This was the one pattern I decided against.

Posted at 10:51h, 01 MarchYou certainly get more done than I do when feeling sleepless! I loved McCall’s 7036 &. may add it to my wish list.

Posted at 06:04h, 02 MarchI was wide awake due to the cold meds…….Anyhow, it’s a new day and I’m feeling better! Many thanks for the comment, Lauren 😉

Posted at 11:26h, 01 MarchWOW! You accomplished so much considering having a cold, feeling lousy and sleepless at 3 am! Nice to know that I’m not the only one who does that. You will absolutely LOVE McCalls 7240! It’s one of my “go-to” patterns. I’ve made 3 versions that look nothing alike because of the different fabrics I used and little sleeve “tweaks” to follow the current trend. I’ll post the 3 together soon. The Vogue 8665 is another one that’s very versatile too that’s on my Spring/Summer make list. Please get well soon!
Happy sewing!

Posted at 06:06h, 02 MarchGreat to know, Mary! I’m feeling better today, and look forward to seeing your dresses 😉
Julia
Posted at 13:12h, 01 MarchSarah, these are fabulous, and I can see you in any and all of them! Even more fun – I can see ME in several. 😀 I love this post, because as someone without a lot of sewing experience, and without a lot of fashion experience, it is easy for me to get overwhelmed looking at patterns in the books. (This overwhelm is what perpetuates my jeans-sweater-boots uniform. ) Fortunately, I have discovered this blog, and instagram, where I subscribe to “fashionover50” and other such inspiring feeds! So grateful for the encouragement of your blog!
FYI: I LOVE that bolero jacket…. and I am dying to find a reason to make the poofy version!

Posted at 06:08h, 02 MarchHi Julia!
Delighted to know this post was helpful to you! I wear a lot of jeans and sweaters myself 😉 Now I’m going to check out “fashion over 50”.

Posted at 19:58h, 01 MarchBarbara, not only that, but there’s a band at the hem of the dress that is not in the line drawing.
goodbyevalentino
Posted at 06:11h, 02 MarchActually the band is shown in Views B,C and D, but I agree the real life version looks somewhat different than the drawing which is why I believe it’s important to feature both on the pattern envelope 😉

Posted at 23:23h, 01 MarchHi Sarah! Love your inspiration board! The Vogue 6562 top is totally “you”! It would be a perfect piece to show off some embroidery embellishments along the dropped collar and sleeves. I think you could do a lot of variations with little time investment so it would be fun to make a few. I also think the last dress, Butterick 6495 would look great in a patterned knit. I just received a Boden catalog with some really stylish “Spring-speration”. Can’t wait to see what you fashion!
goodbyevalentino
Posted at 06:12h, 02 MarchThank you, Julia! You are so right about 6562 and I’m going to get it and use as you suggested 😊😊

Posted at 15:49h, 02 MarchI made V8665 in December for a winter wedding. I shortened View B by 2 inches – I am 5′ 2″, and reduced the width of the hem. Made it in navy blue lace, lined with navy charmeuse, and I was totally thrilled with the result. The fit was perfect.
