23 Mar Kate Spade/Simplicity 7715

You may already know how much I love Kate Spade clothes although I don’t own a single Kate Spade garment.  One of the dresses I’ve admired over the years is the Aubrey Wrap Dress, which Kate Spade introduces in new fabrics every season.    Whether or not I can recreate this dress remains to be seen but I’m trying. In November, Tracy  kindly introduced me to this vintage Simplicity 7715 pattern when I was contemplating evening gown patterns. Three months later, after losing the e-Bay bid Tracy discovered,  I found it on Etsy – even in my size! Hooray and thank you Tracy! Not only is the pattern...

10 Mar Style Arc Abby Cardi

I’m wearing the versatile Abby Cardi by Style Arc, a pattern which I received free during a company promotional. The WORTH cashmere sweater pictured below has been one of my wardrobe staples for nearly four years and served as the inspiration for this sewing project.  I wear the sweater throughout the winter months and pack it for all cold weather trips, but I typically cannot wear it past March. Beside it is the Abby Cardi I just made.     There are distinct differences between the two garments; the Worth sweater has beautiful tiny ribbed edges along the front and cuffs with long ribbing...

08 Jan REDEMPTION

Do I  ever feel better! I wasn’t willing to go through the weekend agitated by my setback and got back to work,  but first things first. When I turned on my computer yesterday morning I knew immediately that  a positive experience had emerged from my unsuccessful New Look dress project. The kind  comments from my Goodbye Valentino followers and Pattern Review friends truly lifted my spirits sending me back to the sewing machine. Thank you so much – You are absolutely wonderful. As you can tell I wasn’t about to sew another too tight dress and erred on the side of generosity. I bought this...

22 Dec In the MOOD

I’m envious of anyone who finds time to sew clothes in December! I’ve not sewn since early December - but I've not bought a single item of clothing either. However, this week  I had the good fortune to take a quick trip to New York, and  visited Mood Fabrics for the first time! Swatch was hilarious running up and down the aisles, and the store was awesome in the truest sense of the word. I fell hard for the jerseys…. I fell hard for the silks…….   I would have fallen for everything if I had been alone. Thank goodness I was with another woman, the wife...

07 Dec Tis the Season to Wear Red

Ah… D e c e m b e r !  If you’re a woman it’s stressful -  period. So busy was I making the evening gown last month, that I gave zero thought to holiday apparel. Hoping to find time to make something…. anything……. to add a little splash to my ho – hum  holiday wardrobe, I stopped by Mary Jo’s last weekend while traveling. I bought the brightest red I could find in the store. Then I bought this pattern. Last month I became intrigued with the Badgley Mischka evening gowns and the designer name caught my eye. What I really like is...

27 Sep Simplicity

I’ve was so busy assembling the 24 pieces of this skirt that I barely had time to glance at the Kate Spade 1 Day only 75% off online sale. Making this skirt saved me hundreds of dollars in that respect alone.  The skirt is fine and it does fit but it doesn’t have much pizzazz. I was tempted by the Amazing Fit title and ordered it some time ago. I found this beautiful  woven silk at Mary Jo’s last week  and thought...

18 Sep Obsessions

Hmmmm…….. I’m feeling divided. My goal is to make clothes and not buy clothes for one year. Through my self imposed challenge which will save me lots and lots of money, improve my sewing skills and give me a new sense of accomplishment, I’ve become more obsessed about clothes than I’ve ever been before. This obsession isn’t what I was expecting but here I am. I remind myself that I’ve got enough clothes for a year even if I don’t make anything! This challenge isn’t about seeing how many clothes I can make in a year but to remove myself from the endless...
