22 Dec In the MOOD
I’m envious of anyone who finds time to sew clothes in December!
I’ve not sewn since early December – but I’ve not bought a single item of clothing either. However, this week I had the good fortune to take a quick trip to New York, and visited Mood Fabrics for the first time!
Swatch was hilarious running up and down the aisles, and the store was awesome in the truest sense of the word.
I fell hard for the jerseys….
I fell hard for the silks…….
I would have fallen for everything if I had been alone. Thank goodness I was with another woman, the wife of one of my husband’s colleagues who doesn’t sew, and time was an issue, so my purchase was limited to eight pieces of fabric.
Do I feel any guilt from such indulgence at Christmas?
Z e r o .
Since August 31st I have bought n o t h i n g to wear. Since August 31st I have bought 5 pieces of inexpensive fabric at Mary Jo’s Cloth Store.
The alluring windows along Fifth Avenue only fueled my creative juices and desire to get back to the sewing machine.
And yes, this really is the Statue of Liberty draped in a gown of jelly beans.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
Until soon.

Posted at 07:43h, 23 DecemberThank you, Carol. I’m jealous of those who have easy access to Mood Fabrics! I don’t know though, my willpower often succumbs in places like this – maybe it’s best I have to get on an airplane to reach this store. Merry Christmas!

Posted at 09:25h, 23 DecemberMore jealousy here- but twofold- Maryjo’s is 4 hours away from me! You got to go to Mood and Maryjo’s and I’m stuck with a Hancock fabric fleece hell!

Posted at 10:10h, 23 DecemberHmmmmmm……………. At least you have one place to shop locally! Our Hancock fabric store closed its doors a few years back making it difficult for everyone who sews around here. I made friends with the wool manager at Mood, and he was delighted to see sewing making such a strong comeback! While I don’t expect to see a return to a strong textile economy in my area, I am hopeful that the sewing industry may begin to expand.

Posted at 11:10h, 29 DecemberThanks Beth for reminding me to take pictures in Mood Fabrics! My splurge in that store sufficed my urge to splurge anywhere else. What a wonderful fabric store!
