Obsessions

18 Sep Obsessions

Hmmmm…….. I’m feeling divided.

My goal is to make clothes and not buy clothes for one year. Through my self imposed challenge which will save me lots and lots of money, improve my sewing skills and give me a new sense of accomplishment, I’ve become more obsessed about clothes than I’ve ever been before.

This obsession isn’t what I was expecting but here I am.

I remind myself that I’ve got enough clothes for a year even if I don’t make anything! This challenge isn’t about seeing how many clothes I can make in a year but to remove myself from the endless cycle of buying expensive clothes that deplete my bank account.

That being said, I couldn’t pass up stopping by one of my favorite fabric stores while traveling this weekend –  Mary Jo’s Cloth Store in Gastonia, NC.

It’s a huge old-fashioned discount fabric store, carrying quilting, clothing and upholstery fabrics, and has been in business for 60 years.  The same women have been working there forever and are immensely helpful.

In my new quest to make Milly tops I found this beautiful silk fabric for $10.98/yard so I splurged and bought 2 ¼ yards.

There are no metallic dots in the fabric but that’s fine.  This time I’m going to try this New Look pattern perhaps altering the neckline.

 I think I’m getting closer!
