2018 Ready to Wear Fast Tag

28 Dec Happy Holidays and a Pfaff Passport Giveaway!

Greeting Dear Readers! I've learned through the past few months that multitasking is not my forte´. As I so excitedly announced, Julie Starr and I signed a contract for a second book which  required my immediate and devoted attention to receive a 2019 publishing date. We turned in our final package December 5, and then it was Christmas. Hello and Happy New Year! These pics taken on December 4, are from our last photo shoot, and we're on the charming cobblestone street, South Adgers Wharf, in Charleston, SC. The shirt is a favorite pattern, the Sewaholic Granville Shirt, and the self-drafted pencil skirt is...

10 Sep Four Good Excuses and an Announcement

Four Reasons I Haven't Sewn Since the end of August: My new Grandson was born (August 28).  His name is Billy and he is healthy and beautiful ❤️ I had a back injury (September 1).  While pulling my kayak out of wet sand, the strap broke and sent me sailing across the beach before landing on my back. I've been out of town (September 6 - 9 ) ...

07 Jun Not Just For Children!

A two-week beach vacation happens rarely, but I enjoyed every day and my sewing machine barely made an appearance. I missed you, Dear Readers! ____________________ The season of love is upon us and my first post vacation garment is a Rehearsal Dinner dress for a wedding this weekend in Atlanta. Visiting fabric stores is so rare for me these days, that when I do have the pleasure to touch and feel the real thing, I am like a child in a candy store. In March, I visited the Children's Corner Store in Nashville for all of 25 minutes. I was caught off guard...

17 May My New Jacket & The Art of Flexibility

I've always thought one of my greatest strengths is flexibility. It's a nebulous term for sure, but for me staying flexible includes the ability to change directions mid-course without becoming rattled. My flexible nature was put to the test during the past several days while constructing the latest - Last year I ordered an interesting and cheerful stretch cotton sateen from Promenade Fabrics. The store sent me a little extra due to the fabric design and my yardage request. I was somewhat overwhelmed by the fabric when it arrived but I loved it and made a simple skirt with the extra fabric (blogged...

22 Apr Lilly Pulitzer Inspired Pants

There's no time like Springtime to channel my inner Lilly Pulitzer, and Mood Fabrics' lime green and white cotton stretch sateen was just what I needed to get in the groove. Stretch cotton sateen climbed to the top of my preferred fabrics for everyday dressing the first time I used it. It's comfortable, durable, available in different weights, and my stretch sateen stash continues to grow. Check out Mood's stash here. Sewing pants has never been my favorite. They're easy to sew but I never know about the fit. Last summer I sewed a pair of shorts using McCall's 6930. (blogged here) which fit...

I'm very pleased to take part in Style Maker Fabrics' Spring Blog Tour! Michelle's latest fabrics represent the best of Spring with fresh palettes and designs in many fabric types. The Pretty in Pink Gingham Check Cotton Shirting caught my eye and my love of classics kicked in. As much as I love sewing specialty garments, I wholeheartedly believe the key to sewing a successful wardrobe is constructing pieces one will wear over and over again, which begins with the classics. Classic garments are designed to flatter everyone when properly fitted, and of course that's one of my chief reasons for sewing. During my heavy duty RTW...

17 Feb Canvas Jacket for S P R I N G

No need to call me Dr. Gunn, but I suppose if I was a physician I'd look a little like this minus the buttons and sunglasses 😉 It takes me very little to get excited about Spring, and after returning from Cleveland's ice and snow to a few warm days of sunshine and blooming cherry trees,  I am keen to sew for the upcoming season. One of these days I might sew a capsule wardrobe, and if I do this is my first piece.  Based on my Capsule Wardrobe Pinterest board one might think I was a capsule wardrobe consultant. I'm obsessed, but...
