16 Aug Save Those Scraps – Cocktail Napkins!

There are some things I will buy for other people but not for myself. What about you? ____________________________________________________ This week I developed a technique for making scalloped-edge cocktail napkins, and it is a game changer! Now I can have my cake and eat it too. When I received Pfaff's Creative Icon, I was completely focused on embroidering tunics for The Tunic Bible and it was intense. During this Coronavirus stay-at-home period, the Icon and I have developed a new relationship, and my more relaxed approach has led me to wonderful discoveries. Would you believe the most difficult part of creating these cocktail napkins was...

06 Mar Shanel No. 3 – French Jacket Completed

My mission: to make a versatile French Jacket, one I could dress up or wear with jeans.  Mission Accomplished 😊. Helen Haughey and Mary Funt offered a superb six day French Jacket class, that challenged me both technically and creatively. I needed it and I loved it. MY FABRIC My original plan was to use the multicolored tweed on top. Mary and Helen knew I had made two previous jackets, and that my goal was to improve my skills. They told me I'd learn much more (such as ironwork shaping) using a different fabric such as one with a grid. I ordered the blue and white...

19 Apr The James’ Tunic

Dear Readers, Life happens. (Birdie, Billy and James) Since I last published a post nearly two months ago, we welcomed Baby James into our family on March 1. Three days later a family member was diagnosed with an illness which has taken me away from home, as well as sewing for extended periods of time. My new embroidered tunic is in celebration of Baby James who will be here for Easter 😊 I purchased my fabric, a reversible rayon at the Children's Corner store in Nashville last year. This lovely store is loaded with beautiful fabrics ideal for both children and adults. After selecting my design...

20 Jul Feminine Twist on Men’s Shirting

Why is so much wonderful cotton shirting described as a man's fabric??? I couldn't pass on Mood Fabrics' beautiful pink/blue Italian cotton shirting even if the description read -  This is a light weight 100% cotton shirting with a woven pattern. Smooth, soft, sleek, ideal for men's dress shirts. Cotton is simply my salvation during this time of year, and with a new grandchild due on September 1, the pink and blue stripes spoke to me! Yep, my daughter and son-in-law are doing it the old fashioned way and skipped the gender test ;) I knew this soft textured fabric with its baby colored stripes...

03 Apr Metallic Tweed Suit and Ribbon Stitch Tutorial

Greetings, Dear Readers!  I hope those of you celebrating Easter had a joyous holiday weekend. My love of pink and orange is approaching unstoppable 😉 Actually, this color combo has been a long time favorite that resurfaces periodically, which is usually, but not always, contained to clothes. I ordered three yards of the pink and orange cotton metallic tweed from Mood Fabrics two years ago and it is now sold out - however, Mood has a nice selection of  metallic tweeds on its website in several types of fabrics. Unfortunately my camera does not capture the metallic thread which shimmers in the sunlight and beautifully...
