31 Jan McCall Pattern Company Interview & Giveaway

The McCall Pattern Company founded in 1870 is a mainstay of the home sewing industry. Through the years, the pattern companies have undergone numerous business changes but they are still here! I had the privilege of touring the Manhattan company headquarters in 2013 which was very impressive.  I was guided through the conception to realization of its pattern process, and the company truly runs like a well oiled machine. Today the McCall Pattern Company is owned by CSS Industries, and sells sewing patterns under the McCall’s®, Butterick®, Kwik Sew® and Vogue Patterns® brand names. In support of the 2018 RTW Fasters, The McCall Pattern Company is serving...

10 Sep Giveaway Winner and Answers!

Greetings, Dear Readers and Happy Sunday :) Writing my posts in a lighthearted spirit is and has always been my style, but today, no matter how my words come across, my heart is with family, friends and those who are affected by Hurricane Irma. May the force be with all who are enduring this monster storm. What a phenomenal response to the Eloflex Giveaway!  I try not to respond to comments during a giveaway since it disrupts the sequence of numbers for the Random Number Generator. However, many comments included questions about sewing with Eloflex and my jacket, so I've pulled the questions from...

It is with great excitement that Julie and I announce a companion website to our upcoming book, The Tunic Bible, thetunicbible.com.  Not only is the website designed to enhance your tunic sewing experience, thetunicbible.com will allow me to post far less tunic material on goodbyevalentino.com. So you might say this is one of my last tunic posts on Goodbye Valentino ;) Julie and I have sewn over 60 tunics during the last 16 months, and became intrigued with several tunic designers. 11 Feb New Inspiration and an Arctic Blast Giveaway

If only I had waited a year before making this dress I could have had this new Vogue pattern right at my fingertips - LOL ;) Maybe you remember when I made this dress last January 2015. Inspired by an Akris Punto dress on the Neiman Marcus website for $995, (photo above) I altered a pattern to achieve a similar look. The new collection of Vogue Patterns now offers the Akris Punto knockoff in full minus the pockets. I really love the set-in sleeves along with the rounded hemline, and plan to give it a try in a different color combo for another...
