New Look Sewing Patterns

27 Jul New Look Pattern 6372

I love silk and wear it for almost any occasion, other than feeding babies ;) I was especially thrilled to recently find the Karen Kane Riviera and White Abstract Silk Crepe de Chine on the Mood Fabrics website - a silk crepe de chine featuring a casual print. With its gorgeous shades of blue and soft drape of textured silk, this fabric was right up my alley for the project I had in mind; a breezy summer top that could go anywhere. No agenda, no deadline, no pattern matching, no tricky fitting ...

06 Jan New Look 6581

Greetings on this twelfth and last day of Christmas! After a complicated year I was craving a simple project, not to mention an unstructured garment following holiday indulgences. 😉 I'm a  lover of the classic wrap dress, and enjoy trying new patterns. This time I  reached for New Look 6581. I was game to try the midi pattern length ...

17 Dec Merry & Bright in Sequins!

I'd say the catch phrase this holiday season is Merry & Bright, and I fell right in line upon seeing Mood Fabrics' glittering silver baby sequined fabric! I've owned a few formal sequined dresses over the years, and while sequined ball gowns are still around, shifting trends in the fabric now feature more relaxed styles from cocktail dresses to t-shirts. I made the dress for an annual Christmas dinner party and chose a simple pattern to keep the dress from appearing too formal. My base pattern is  New Look 6524, a shift pattern I purchased a while ago for the sleeve variations. My original...

18 Sep Last Summer Wedding – New Look 6429

If you have been reading Goodbye Valentino for a while, you might remember my blog started as a reaction to all of the money I was spending on dressing for weddings. Whether it was my daughters' friends' weddings or my friends' daughters' weddings, shopping for weddings was sending me to the poorhouse. Six years later we are still in the wedding stage of our lives - not that I'm complaining. I truly love weddings, and am always honored to be included on the invitation list. Weddings are such special family events that I make it a priority to dress festively and appropriately...

09 Apr Almost Cocktail Attire

In my next life I'd like to live in a historic house in Charleston with a decorative gate and  creeping fig wall. Perhaps you follow Teggy French, one of my favorite fashion bloggers. Last fall her social media led me to Shein, a website of inexpensive clothing where I purchased a ruffled bell sleeve top. When it arrived I hated everything about it...

04 Jun No. 15 – Little Black Dress

Greetings from Edisto Island! Hubby and I are on the grounds of the island's historic Presbyterian Church now in its fourth century of worship, and which we found to be a perfect setting for photos. I was on a mission to make brightly colored summer clothes when New Look 6429 leaped off of the catalogue page. It is one of those patterns I've been looking for since I returned to sewing nearly 5 years ago. Cut in shoulders, cut out neckline, simple and chic, I was smitten. I also had a  beautiful piece of black stretch viscose crepe from Mood Fabrics waiting to be sewn. Often...

08 May New Look 6057

Happiness may be a new puppy, but a new baby on the way is pure elation! Greetings from beautiful Scottsdale, AZ! We're here celebrating Mother's Day with our little mother-to-be and her husband. Katie thinks she is having a girl, but I think she's having a boy! She and Will are one of the few couples I know who are not finding out the gender of their child. How am I supposed to sew anything for Little Baby without knowing if it's a boy or a girl ;) For our special Mother's Day celebration I made a new dress with a pattern I've...
