A Comment from Marcy Tilton

17 Jan A Comment from Marcy Tilton

Dear Readers,

I intended to make a correction to my last post on Monday, January 19, when I announced the Giveaway winner. However, upon receiving a comment from the pattern designer  Marcy Tilton, I decided the subject needed a separate post.

From Marcy:

I refer to these as skinny pants, not leggings (or tights or jeggings etc) as they are really a narrow pant. They can be made with very little ease, or, depending on the fabric with more ease. I must have 12 pair in different weight fabrics. Knits like ponte are a natural, but I make them in stretch woven fabrics too. For stretch wovens, I add a 2″ seam allowance at the side seam, and an additional 1″ at the waistline, then adjust these seams in fitting. For cool weather I make them in lighter weight stretch cottons and crop the length. When the pattern was released, I did a blog on the pattern: http://marcytiltonblog.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Thank you, Marcy! I also want to acknowledge other readers who commented that this pattern is really a skinny pant.

When sewing this pattern, I was hoping to achieve a legging effect and removed  a few inches from the leg  circumference with a tapered seam from the ankle to the crotch.  The alteration slipped my mind since the pants were primarily sewn in November and I did not record my alteration – More reason to own A Sewist’s Notebook!

Forgive me for any confusion I may have caused!

At any rate, as you know I am pleased with the pattern and truly appreciate Marcy’s comments, suggestions and link to her blog post on sewing the pattern.

There is  no need to comment on this post.  I simply did not want to mislead anyone purchasing the pattern expecting leggings when the pattern is actually skinny pants.

Indeed, there is a difference 🙂

Glad that Marcy cleared up the legging vs skinny pant notes on 8859. I was about to
cut a pair out and when I saw leggings/tights I changed my mind. Now I will cut out
    a pair.
Thanks for being on top of this subject.

I have made StyleArc’s Barb’s stretch pants in several different fabrics including stretch woven and have found the fit to be very different depending on the fabric. The tip above about adding 2″ when using the stretch woven is great – and seems like such an obvious thing to do but somehow these types of alterations never occur to me! Thank you for your wonderful blogs.

Oh the Marcy Tilton blog page links say the page is gone, is it just me or is it happening to others too?

I also found that this page is missing. It is a pity, but Marcy Tilton’s comments on adding extra seam allowances for women’s make a lot of sense, so perhaps that is the help that we need.

Please ask MarCy to check her link. Page is missing… Thank her for the tip on the pattern. It sounds very versatile.
