15 Jul One More Time + An EmmaOneSock Giveaway!
You know the feeling when you’re itching to make your last pattern o n e. m o r e. t i m e…..

but since I just wrote extensively about Vogue 1809, this post is about the fabric….
I now realize how little I knew about fabrics when I returned to sewing in 2011. I thought cotton was cotton and wool was wool…. polyester was a dirty word and so was rayon. I thought all silk was luxurious and linen too. You get the picture.
In 2011 I would have never believed my favorite summer sewing fabric would be cotton blended with lycra or spandex, but it’s true.
I get it when people tell me they want to touch and feel a fabric before buying, but the education I have received from online fabric shopping is invaluable.
My latest is sewn from a stretch dressweight woven purchased from EmmaOneSock. Owner Linda Podietz not only offers exceptional fabrics on her website, but truly makes online fabric shopping a pleasure.
Take my latest shopping experience for example………
After selecting my category, the blue and white floral image caught my eye…..
Linda’s description includes the Pantone number, an image of the draped fabric and coordinating fabric possibilities. ( If you are serious about your colors, Pantone Charts are readily available online.)
From a NY designer, this is a fantastic cotton/spandex stretch dressweight woven, medium weight and opaque, with a cottony drape. The all-over graphic flowers print is fresh and summery (8″ vertical repeat), and colors are navy and midnight on a white ground (PANTONE 19-3951, 19-3920, etc.). 15% stretch in the width with great recovery. Great for dresses, skirts, tunic, fitted jacket, capris, culottes, etc. Beautiful quality! Test first if you would like to machine wash and dry (cold water, low heat, separately).
Exceptional customer service……..
The fabrics arrive promptly, are beautifully packaged and I have never been disappointed.!
In support of the Ready to Wear Fast, EmmaOneSock is providing a $100 gift certificate giveaway to one lucky winner (open to all Goodbye Valentino readers). Which EmmaOneSock fabric would you like to win? To enter the giveaway visit the EmmaOneSock website, then leave me a comment below stating your favorite EmmaOneSock fabric. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, July 18.
Good luck readers! 😊

Posted at 08:57h, 15 JulyMy favorite is Fabric #66458 – the sparkly Chanel tweed. I’ve been meaning to make a Chanel-inspired jacket and this would be perfect!
I do want to comment on the Pantone, however. For me it is not practical to spend $100+ for a Pantone fan deck so its use to describe colors does me no good, however accurate it might be. In my perfect world, Emma (and other online fabric vendors) would use Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint colors that are easily accessible to all sewers. I’ve searched but can’t find an online chart converting Pantone to BM or SW. If there is one, I hope someone might post a link.
Love your blog, Sarah!

Posted at 11:40h, 15 JulyHi Jennifer, Actually, all of the Pantone numbers referenced on the Emma One Sock website are “clickable” and link right to the Pantone color online. There’s not cross-referencing needed as it’s just a click away. —Linda

Posted at 09:03h, 15 JulyFabric 67001, Garden Dream is lovely! I also purchase fabric from EmmaOneSock and it is a wonderful company. Real people will respond to e-mails and phone calls and the fabric is all high quality and comes packaged beautifully. I purchased the fabric for my “mother-of-the-bride dress” from EOS so I’ll always have this special connection.

Posted at 09:07h, 15 JulyI love this fabric combined with your pattern. I can’t help myself when it comes to the sweater knits on EOS. I have a stack but the latest one caught my eye. It’s the Italian blue/turquoise seed stitch cotton sweater knit. I might have to just purchase that one and use a gift cert for the next one that comes along! I was raised in Chicago but live in Florida. I can’t help but think about how great a sweater feels on a cool day. I love the way the knits are folded and packed in tissue. They have a special place in my stash.

I’ve got 3.5 yards to make a two-some of some kind and I cannot wait to wear it! I love how she describes her fabrics and it’s one of my favorite sites to browse and plan. Posted at 09:48h, 15 JulyHello Sarah,
I love buying fabric from EmmaOneSock. The fabrics arrive beautifully packaged, and the customer service is great. They also have great info on the fabrics, not to mention the tutorials by Kathryn Brynne on the website!
My fabric of choice for today would be the “summery floral embroidered sheer mesh – black”. I don’t wear floral-ly type fashions, but this one is edgy, and I like that about it. I’ve never sewn with this type of fabric either, so it would certainly be a learning curve! 🙂
Have a great day!

Posted at 10:07h, 15 Julyfabric #65820 The ladybug embroidered, blue and white stripe shirting is my favorite. I was lovingly nicknamed ladybug during my college years, so this fabric brings back sweet memories, but I also adore the newest embroidery trends and being apart of history. The art has been with us since Cro-Magnon days, and although the “supplies” haven’t changed, just decorative thread… the differences in history are remarkable. China, Japan, Persia… and the modern world with embroidery machines… I just love it all!

Posted at 11:21h, 15 JulyHaving recently returned to my lifelong love of sewing, I am constantly delighted by the quality, choice and affordability of today’s fabrics. I’ve never worked with knits and find them intimidating, especially since I don’t own a serger. After cruising through the Emma One Sock website and viewing fabric #63750, I’m ready to take the leap! The step-by-step construction advice offered on the website is invaluable. I plan to use Butterick pattern 5948 view D (I’ve had this pattern since college!) to wear under a coordinating jacket and leggings for my trip to QuiltCon 2019. PS – given the easy care, affordability and cashmere-ish texture of this fabric, I’m thinking it might make a great throw to snuggle under while quilting and sewing in my brand new she-cave retreat (formerly a guest bedroom).

Posted at 11:42h, 15 JulyI found Emma One Sock over a year ago & I am in love! It is so exciting to see the deliciousness that Linda posts each day! Linda’s site is easy to use. She sorts fabrics into categories & also by color. She lists coordinating fabrics, which is very helpful. The staff is knowledgeable & very helpful. They are quick to answer any questions. Samples are free. Sometimes I have to consider if a fabric will be popular, because some things sell out very quickly. The choices are amazing! My orders come quickly & very well packaged. I have ordered from other online stores, & sometimes my fabric is shipped unwrapped & tossed in a box. Not so with EOS. I love the tutorials! Emma One Sock also posts client “Makes” on Instagram & Facebook. I love seeing what others have done with their purchases. I cannot say enough about this online store. In my opinion, it is by far the best online fabric store – hands down! I would love the Alice & Olivia floral Metallic Brocade – #674567.

Posted at 12:32h, 15 JulyIt’s a relief to hear I’m not the only one overwhelmed with all the new fabrics terms and blends available today! I decided last month to make my own cloths after a 30 year hiatus because every time I was at a boutique or store I found myself saying over and over…” I can make that…and for a lot less” For the past month I have read books and blogs, made muslins and a few items.
Ordering fabric online is a new and somewhat daunting experience, which I am still navigating.
Love looking at all the fabrics EmmaOneSock has to offer. I particularly love a pink and orange silk cotton voile #66542

I’ve just finished reading Helena Attlee’s ‘The Land Where Lemons Grow’ and the descriptions of sun drenched, fragrant lemon groves in Italy make me want to visit this magical country so very much. Sadly, a visit to Italy is not within my reach but a couple of metres of lemon tree cotton/spandex sateen would mean I could make the most beautiful dress which would more than compensate for staying at home. My new dress and a few lemons in a bowl would make me more than happy.

Posted at 12:45h, 15 JulyHow do you decide what ONE fabric to choose from EOS. The choices are all wonderful and any of them would be great. I currently have Garden Dreams in my idea book but also a long list of other choices like wool crepe, boiled wool, and linen. I am gathering up confidence to attempt a linen knit. I have ordered from EOS (even though the border, customs and the exchange rate tends to add addition challenges) and the fabrics have been superb! My double faced wool in pink and black coat gets rave reviews when I wear it. Thanks EOS!

Posted at 16:11h, 15 JulySo glad you featured Emma One Sock. I’m considering some of their Giza cotton for a new shirt. Love your explanation of how to use the Pantone color #. Thanks for all you do for this blog. The RTW fast has been such a joyous trip for me. It has really changed my approach to buying RTW, haven’t bought any this year, but also has help me find the crank for turning out self-sewn items at a reasonable pace. And also, am liking what I make to boot. Thanks a bunch.

Posted at 08:34h, 16 JulyHello Sarah,
What a wonderful giveaway! I returned to sewing several years back and since then have been making more and more of my own clothes. So many of the garments in stores are ill fitting or if reasonably priced, not the best quality. Enter Linda Podietz and Emmaonesock: So many top quality fabrics that it’s hard to choose. I found her by chance online and now not only purchase almost all of my fabrics from her, but I make almost all my clothes. Quality and service can’t be beat. Many times I have seen a fabric type that I have never sewn but the design is so pretty that I must have it – so I have also expanded my sewing style. And, Linda is a really nice person. I really like summery floral embroidered sheer mesh – white #59889. I have never sewn with such a sheer fabric but it’s so beautiful that I would find something to sew that I can’t live without!
Thank you for sponsoring!

Posted at 18:37h, 16 JulyShe has so many amazing fabric choices!! I have been buying from her since she started her online shop. I still remember one of my all time favorite sleeveless tops was one of her aqua rayon knits. Her selection of linens is remarkable! One of my friends ( Leah D.) and I call each other and have long conversations about the selections she maintains on the site. Then we go off on a tangent and go onto many different pattern sites to decide which EOS fabric would make the best version of a particular pattern design!

Posted at 00:24h, 17 JulyImagine my excitement when I saw your post about this $100.00 Emma One Sock fabric prize! I purchased my first EOS fabric in ply knit. It came beautifully packaged with a lot of love and care. And the fabric was so unique, high quality and absolutely beautiful! I still wear that dress every Spring and Summer and it looks as great as the day I finished it! Truly a testament to the high quality of fabrics that Linda hand selects. About 1/2 of the fabrics in my stash are from Emma One Sock! As others have said who shop this online store, it’s just about impossible to choose only one fabric! So here’s my pick for this time: #67385 100% Linen Digital Print watercolor border floral!
A huge thank you to Linda for supporting all of us RTW Fasters! And thank you Sarah for your continued encouragement and making this group fun and exciting! 😊

Posted at 03:53h, 17 JulyThe most gorgeous, high-quality fabrics I have ever purchased have come from EmmaOneSock; this is my all-time, very favourite place to spend my money! And nothing makes me happier than when the postman delivers my EOS order — oh, to carefully open the box, and then to unwrap each carefully folded, tissue-lined length of gloriously exquisite, stunningly unique, OH-MY-goodness-it’s-even-lovelier-and-more-luxurious-than-I-ever-could-have-imagined fabric! My current favourite? — it’s so hard to choose! But I think I would most lOVE TO WRAP MYSELF in the “lush rayon/silk velvet” selection, and though all of the available colour options are gorgeous, at the moment, I would choose the “ballet pink” colour way ! Find it by searching EOS Fabric #63413; it is 54″ wide and priced at $30.00/yard.

Posted at 08:59h, 17 JulyDear Sarah,
thank you so much for your post and insight re fabric composition. I feel I am still stuck to the stereotypical thinking “linen, cotton, etc.” is heaven, and poly-xxx has to be avoided at all costs. However, I only recently learnt that viscose isn’t that bad at all, and I am sewing more and more with organic materials, and woven hemp fabric – so, so soft!
Also only recently have I discovered the EOS website, being on the lookout for really good silk jersey (as in DVF dresses ten years ago). Sadly, I came too late when there wasn’t enough silk jersey fabric left. But I am constantly searching the site for new silk jerseys…;-) Apart from that, I do like the “Australian wool and silk sharkskin suiting – sapphire (fabric #51181) very much. Would make the perfect dress for work, and with the gift certificate… even better. 🙂
Thank you for your blog, I always enjoy reading (and re-reading, especially how you made Vogue 8379. Impeccable work!)
Keep on fasting, xx
