01 Jan Happy New Year!
Ready – Set – STOP!
Buying clothes that is….
It’s time for me to stop shopping and start sewing for an entire year 🙂
This time around I am in the company of nearly two hundred women who accepted my 2014 RTW Fast invitation.
Click on any of smiling faces below to see the entire group of the 2014 RTW Fasters.
Aren’t these 200 women amazing? They represent women across the globe and feature a diversity of skills and styles as well as a diversity of shapes, sizes, ages and races.
The new 2014 RTW Fasters page found at the top of the blog is designed so that readers can click on the link and follow each faster. Surely there is a sewist for everyone!
Many of the 2014 RTW Fasters shared their reasons for joining the Fast with me which include; saving money, sewing clothes that fit, finding appropriate styles, improving sewing skills and creating a unique wardrobe.
Me? It was time to get back on the wagon. On the one hand I think I must be nuts going on a Ready-to-Wear Fast the year of my oldest daughter’s wedding, but on the other hand if not now, when?
If there’s never a good time to make a change you need to make, you know the time is right.
Many thanks to all of the brave women who have joined forces to make the 2014 RTW Fast an exciting year of sewing, and a special thank you to those cheering us on!
Stay tuned – we’ve only just begun 🙂

Posted at 01:38h, 01 JanuaryThis is going to be fun. I’m wanting to just get off my backside and sew up some of the wonderful fabric I have. The best fun of sewing is fabric shopping but I haven’t done that much lately as I have so much!

Posted at 01:51h, 01 JanuaryHappy New Year Sarah! Thanks for all your encouragement and for sharing your sewing journey through 2013. Since starting back sewing I’ve hardly bought any clothes at all (not that I shopped much before either, but at least now that I’m sewing again I have more choice and better fitting clothes than before, which I’m enjoying). All the very best to you and all the others who joined the RTW Fast. I’m sure it will be fun.

Posted at 02:58h, 01 JanuaryHappy New Year Sarah, I am sure that your RTW fast will not stop you looking fabulous for your daughter’s wedding – While I never joined the fast, I really hardly bought anything including my own wedding dress, in fact I bought a Michael Kors jacket in the sales the other day, but it was the first thing I have bought for, well to be honest I can’t remember when I last bought RTW including underwear. Good luck and I look forward to reading all about this year’s fast with all your gang.

Posted at 03:09h, 01 JanuaryThat is fantastic! I’ve been on a hiatus from RTW (except lululemon for workout wear — I need a good flat lock machine and sport fabrics!) for the last year and I love it! Congratulations on starting this fantastic challenge.

Posted at 06:13h, 01 JanuaryHappy New Year!!! What a great list. So many people have joined you.
I already spent my New Year’s Eve Sewing when we returned from our trip. Was trying to finish my garment for the cocktail outfit contest that I knew I would never finish in time, but I thought I would give it a try 🙂 Guess that is what happens when we make two unexpected road trips in the time I was supposed to be working on it. Oh well. I’m still making the dress anyway. I finished making the second muslin and cut out the fashion fabric and started sewing so I’m on my way…
This will be interesting…I have a lot going on this year. Very similiar to your year so it should be fun 🙂

Posted at 07:09h, 01 JanuaryHappy New Year!!! Thanks so much for organising this Sarah. Should be a wonderful sewing year with all this inspiration to draw on. I have lots of plans already.

Posted at 08:04h, 01 JanuaryMan, I wish I had heard of this earlier. I’m still somewhat new to sewing, but I would have participated. Oh, well. This year unofficially, next year officially. Good luck everyone! Very excited to follow along.

Posted at 08:10h, 01 JanuaryI’ve really been looking forward to this. Ordered a bolt of muslin so I can make sure I love everything I make and will not be tempted. Happy New Year to Sarah and the rest of the fasters!

Day one and I haven’t bought anything yet so I am on track so far! I also want to try and work mainly from my (massive) fabric stash so most of what I make will come from there.
I am planning my first garment for the ‘Garment a Month’ challenge so check back soon to see what it is!

Posted at 10:48h, 01 JanuaryHappy New Year!! I am excited to be included with the 200 that said “yes!” It is going to be amazing I am sure of it. I did go to the RTW Fasters page, and noticed that the link to my blog is incorrect, though. It should be sewfilled.blogspot.com. Thanks again for hosting this challenge!

Posted at 11:16h, 01 JanuaryCan’t wait to see what you all do! I just started sewing so my 2014 resolution is to really improve my skills enough that I can to a RTW fast in 2015! 🙂 You’re very inspirational.

Posted at 11:44h, 01 JanuaryI am amazed ago how many accepted your challenge and impressed by how much work it must have been to get all those names, especially those like me who get the information to you late! And apparently, I sent it incorrectly.
I think I didn’t get my blog to you correctly. It is:
MrsToadSews.blogspot.com
I gave you my Sewing.PatternReview.com information and my Kindle “corrected” my blog address into an email address. I’m sorry for any confusion.
Happy New Year and Happy Sewing!

Posted at 12:18h, 01 JanuaryI’m excited to see what 2014 brings to my sewing machine. I’ve been frustrated for years with the RTW scene because I’m 6’1″, so here’s to a new beautiful wardrobe. Thank you Sarah!

Posted at 16:13h, 01 JanuaryBarbara, I’d love to if you can tell me how to do it. Do you just need a HTML text link? Sarah

Posted at 17:30h, 01 JanuaryIt looks like you already have a widget button ready to go for everyone to use. All they need to do is paste…
{a href=”https://goodbyevalentino.com/2014-rtw-fasters/”}{img src=”http://goodbyevalentinodotcom.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/rtw-fast-badge.jpeg?w=170&h=170″}{/a}
(though please switch out every { for so the html code will work)
…in their side bars, and they’ll have your cute 170×170 pixel logo on their own blog that links to your nicely organized RTW fasters page.

Posted at 17:23h, 01 JanuaryYou are amazing! I can’t believe you’ve gathered together over 200 people to join you in your ready-to-wear fast. I’ll be there in spirit, but this year stands to be a little bit different for me than past years, what with a little one on the way any day now, so I just can’t bring myself to pledge. I’d likely end up with a naked baby this summer as I was trying to hold even the little one to my pledge! 🙂

Posted at 17:35h, 01 JanuaryThank you. Amy! The minute your prepregnancy figure returns, I hope you will hit the stores and buy yourself some beautiful clothes! You’ll deserve them big time 🙂

Posted at 17:38h, 01 JanuaryI made all of my clothing in 2013 due to expensive prices, and improperly fitting clothing. I am going to continue this in 2014. I must say that in the past year that I have become more creative and learned new sewing skills. I hope to join you next year. I don’t have a blog page. Have fun ladies!

Posted at 08:12h, 02 JanuaryI’d like to join, Sarah, but I have a question. Does RTW include thrift store clothes to refashion? Beth
goodbyevalentino
Posted at 08:16h, 02 JanuaryI’m afraid so, Beth. I’d love for you to join more than anything but even thrift clothes are Ready-to-Wear.
Ugh…… can you still do it? Don’t you already have 365 thrift store garments in your stash? 🙂
The Renegade Seamstress
Posted at 08:19h, 02 JanuaryOh yes, I’m sure I do. 🙂 I’ll look through my stash and see if it’s doable.

This is the perfect thing for me to continue on into the rest of 2014 (which I planned on doing anyway).

Posted at 20:51h, 16 JanuaryI’m committing to buying no new clothes in 2014, even though I have missed the deadline with your blog. One of my main reasons for doing this is environmental. I just read “Overdressed” by Elizabeth Cline. It’s about the environmental cost of cheap, practically disposable clothes. Great read. Hello needle and thread!
