Fabric: Lightweight Stretch Cotton, Promenade Fabrics

Year Made 2018

Styling Notes:

T.G.I.F!!

I’m ending the summer Daily Mix in my Luau Maxi, perfect for sipping Skinny Piña Coladas by the pool! I made the dress for Hawaii 2018 and bring it out on hot summer days. The dress is featured in A Stylish Guide to Classic Sewing.

Top: The Tunic Bible,

No Post

Fabric: Silk Charmeuse, Gorgeous Fabrics

Year Made 2015

Styling Notes

I have a serious playdate with little Billy today who turns three next month. He’ll talk about the pink elephants on my tunic all day long. My tunic was inspired by Elizabeth McKay, whose company featured silk elephant ruffled neck tunics in every imaginable color. Typically, I would dress it up a notch, but today capris and Jack Rogers are calling my name.

Dress: Style Arc Teena Dress, Cotton Eyelet Mood Fabrics

Post HERE

Year Made 2015

Styling Notes

I went to the trouble to add boning to this dress and it paid off. Six years later I still love wearing this bright coral dress on sweltering summer days. I go for the gold to accessorize the simple lines of the dress. I’ve never thought of wearing anything else with it except a little coral lipstick 😊

Top: New Look 6372, Silk Crepe de Chine Mood Fabrics

Post HERE

Year Made 2019

Styling Notes

Time to pull out the lightest clothes I own, and this billowy top fits the bill.  The crepe de chine is not sheer so no need for a lining. I’ll wear this top paired with white jeans and my trusty Charleston Shoe Company wedges through the dog days of summer and possibly beyond.

Dress: McCalls 2401 Stretch Cotton Mood Fabrics

Year Made 2017

Styling Notes

I’m all about easy dressing especially on a Monday.  The medallion trim replaces the need for a necklace. My favorite Jack Rogers and a pair of hoops are all I need !

Styling Notes

What a pleasure it is to get dressed for lunch again.

I never realized the beauty of bias cut clothing until I made this top which accentuates body lines without a tight fit. The many shades of blue in this silk charmeuse work with several accessory combinations. Below is my fantasy list and I’m loving the pom pom bag and sea glass earrings!

Skirt: New Look 6492 Post HERE

Year Made 2018

Styling Notes

I made the skirt three years ago and loved wearing it very casually. Making the top two years later changed everything. I finished it in the height of the pandemic and have hardly worn the two pieces together. Clearly the accessories are not well thought out, so I’ve got some work to do. When in doubt wear gold……….

Dress: Refashioned Talbots Dress Circa 2001

Post HERE

Year Made 2017

Styling Notes

I’ve hung onto this Irish Linen dress for years and will wear it until it is threadbare. Removing a foot of the length and adding four rows of small tassel trim gave it new life. I love the combination of black with brown and natural accessories, and am always on the lookout for pieces that fit into this color combination.

Tunic: The Tunic Bible, No Post

Fabric: Refashioned Gretchen Scott Scarf

Year Made 2015

Styling Notes

An oldie but goodie! Lightweight, and cheerful, the long sleeves make air-conditioned grocery stores tolerable. There was a time when I wore this tunic with pink jeans – six years later I wear it with white and accessorize with pink, black and white.

Dress: Burda 6722 , Post HERE

Fabric – St. James Ponte Knit, Mood Fabrics

Year Made 2017

Styling Notes

I saw this very dress  by St. James in a Charlotte, NC boutique. Imagine my surprise when I discovered St. James knits on the Mood Fabric website!

I made the dress four years ago and it’s a favorite wardrobe staple of mine. I always accessorize it with black & white. The giant black earrings are a gift from a friend, and took me out of my comfort zone.

Easy dressing!

Styling Notes

It’s one of my favorite tops ever. I embroidered the lower edge to give a feminine detail to the traditional men’s shirting and wearing it with blue jeans showcases the embroidery. The jeans are high waisted 👏👏👏. Just before the pandemic I splurged on a pair of pink drivers and I am pleasantly surprised at how much I wear them. I’ve accessorized the outfit with mother of pearl drop earrings and two cable bracelets.

Skirt – Petal Skirt Self-Drafted Post Here

Top – Essie Tank Top, Lilly Pulitzer

Fabric – Cotton by Jennifer Paganelli,

Year Made 2019

Styling Notes

I’ve only worn this skirt with this top; the two seem to go hand-in-hand. The thin Lilly top tucks in nicely and stays put 😊  I carry out the theme of the gold buttons with gold accessories with a punch of pink. Today I’m wearing gold flats, but often wear the ensemble with pink Jack Rogers.

Dress – Butterick 6333

Fabric – Cotton Gingham,

Year Made 2019

Styling Notes

If I could wear a shirtdress on only one day of the week, it would be Monday. It’s the perfect choice getting back to the daily grind.  I made a fabric waist tie to wear with the dress, but a black belt brings the look together, especially if I’m wearing black shoes or accessories. Today I paired it with both black and black & white accessories; black pearls, black & white raffia earrings and a black & white enamel bracelet.

Tunic: The Tunic Bible – post  here.

Year Made 2015

Fabrics: Cotton Voile (dots) polyester voile (sleeve and lining) linen (cuffs, collar placket and border) Mood Fabrics

Cropped Jeans: Talbots

Styling Notes

One of my favorite tunics ever! I was determined to make an interesting white tunic for The Tunic Bible . Fortunately, the mixture of white fabrics and textures resulted in the look I was seeking. I rarely wear cropped pants but the monochromatic color scheme creates the illusion of height. Easy neutral accessories complete the look.  I bought the shoes in Paris in 2010.

Dress: Kwik Sew  – post  here.

Year Made 2020

Fabric: Stretch Cotton Poplin, Gorgeous Fabrics

Styling Notes

When I made this dress, a design expert contacted me with constructive criticism. She said the square neckline is the wrong shape for my face, however, she commented I had intuitively made it work by wearing a long anchored gold necklace. Now, I always wear a long anchored necklace with the dress. I love neutrals as much as bright colors, and find neutral colors easy to accessorize with either gold or a mixture of textures.

Skirt: Burda 6904 – original photo here.

Year Made 2014

Fabric: Embroidered Linen Mood Fabrics

Top: Abandoned Michael Star. I closed the clevage 2″

Styling Note:

I balanced the fullness of the tiered skirt with a fitted top and kept the look casual with Paul Meyer ballet flats. Black and white raffia earrings and a large enamel bracelet punctuate the look.

Dress Butterick 6669 – post Here

Year Made 2020

Fabric: Cotton Eyelet Mood  (product link here)

Styling Note:

It’s still a holiday and we’re celebrating South Carolina’s glorious peaches with poolside cocktails. Maxis are ideal poolside attire! I made this one ankle length and wear it with my favorite sandals and drop earrings. I consider lipstick to be an accessory too – especially when it’s bright!

Dress: McCall’s 6885 – post  here.

Year Made 2020

Fabric: Stretch Cotton Poplin (Stretch Poplin products link here)

Styling Note:

Shirtdresses are one-strop dressing, and this one has the option of a self-fabric tie. Turning the direction of the stripes along the placket, collar, pockets and cuff tabs results in a garment that’s easy to accessorize. Just imagine this dress accessorized with a little red!

My shoes are Charleston Walking Shoes, but I wear it with flats and patent sandals too.

Pants: McCalls 6930 – post Here

Year Made 2018

Fabric: Stretch Cotton Sateen, Mood Fabrics (similar products here)

Top: Lilly Pulitzer Polo Circa 2005

Styling Note:

The pants can be dressed up or down. My Lilly Polo is over 15 years old but it’s a classic with many years of wear left! Accessorizing with white hoops and touch of pink adds a pop of summer to the look.
