06 Jul The Daily Mix
People often ask me if I really wear all of the clothes I sew. Believe it or not I still wear a few clothes from 2011-2012, the year I reacquainted myself with garment sewing.
While I’ve experienced a few disappointments here and there, the short answer is Yes, I wear the clothes I sew. Last month I wore my six-year-old tunic for a family beach photo. I know, the wind………
It’s still a favorite garment sewn in Oscar de la Renta fabric and I continue to receive compliments on it.
Once in Charleston while wearing this tunic, a woman called out
“Goodbye Valentino?”
“Hi!” I responded…….
” I recognize the tunic!” 😂
I frequently style my makes differently than the gallery photos to accommodate various situations and circumstances.
To document when and how I wear my clothes, I’ve created a new blog page, The Daily Mix, – you’ll find it in the sidebar of the home and blog pages.
For the next four weeks each Monday – Friday I’ll upload an Outfit of the Day featuring my daily choice of handmade clothes occasionally mixed with a RTW piece. Each post will describe the garment and accessories with product links. I will not send out daily emails, but you will find new content on the page each day.
Click on the photo and you’ll be linked to the page.
I began documenting my #OOTD on July 1, and all is updated. I hope you’ll find the page and it’s content helpful. It’s easy to get into a rut and wear the same clothes over and over, but thoughtfully choosing the clothes we’ve so carefully crafted is a sign of respect for our time and efforts.
I’ve worn my makes internationally…………
and at parties among high end garments…………….
but the most fun of all is letting Birdie pick out my #OOTD…….. it’s always pink or purple.
A follow up from the last post….. I never expected the Charleston Shoe Company shoes to sell so quickly, but if you’re still looking for some, QVC offers a nice selection at great prices.
Many thanks again for the warm welcome back – I’ve loved reconnecting you and hope you’ll join me for my daily dressing adventure!
Until soon 😊

Posted at 09:24h, 06 JulyMany thanks, Lisa 😊 The pattern is McCall’s 6885. The picture above was my first make with the pattern. It has a strange hemline which I changed for subsequent dresses – otherwise, I love everything about the pattern!

Posted at 11:42h, 06 Julywhat a lovely blog post, so nice to see your creations in action with friends and family.
I think your #ootd post is such a good idea, as you have natural style and talent at putting a look together.
Oh, and a while back you mentioned how comfortable a pair of shoes you got from the C.S.C. were on a holiday you were on.
I remember looking into them at the time, but postage and taxes to Scotland prevented me purchasing, so thank you for the link to Zulily, I have a pair ordered to try them, as I suffer terribly at times with my feet. The podiatrist gave me horrible inserts, and suggested the most ugly shoes…..I choose to suffer ….probably foolish of me!!!

Posted at 13:56h, 06 JulyHi Mary Anne!
I hope the Charleston Shoes work out for you 😊 It’s true, I walked all over Italy in these shoes and my feet never hurt. They’re also washable!
Many thanks for the comment!

Posted at 13:08h, 06 JulyVery fun and inspiring post! Yes, i, too will follow your daily OOTD. Having been part of your first and second RTW fasts, I have never stopped sewing the clothes I wear. Maybe someday you’ll feel up for another RTW fast? Connecting with other people around the world participating and sharing their sewing stories and makes has always been a highlight of my sewing memories and experiences.. So good to see your family healthy, happy, and growing!

Posted at 21:10h, 15 JulyHi Julie! Thank you so much for your nice comment. Lilly dresses are one thing I will not purge. Not that I have that many but there is a collection in the house from a Girls’ size 10 to adult women. There’s nothing like vintage Lilly Pulitzer 🙂
