We’ve Only Just Begun…..

01 Jan We’ve Only Just Begun…..

Ready
Set
STOP!
Buying clothes that is….
It’s time for me and nearly 1,000 other women (and two men) to stop shopping and start sewing for an entire year .
fast-001.jpg-2Greetings on this cold winter day…..

I’m simply elated and happily overwhelmed that close to 1,000 sewists from around the globe have joined me to reap the benefits of sewing their clothes rather than shopping for one year.  New Year’s Eve brought a rush of people (400+) to the RTW Fast, and we are steadily working on organizing the group to present on the blog.

The first giveaway, a $100 gift certificate to Mood Fabrics will be announced once the Faster’s page is up and running.

My advice on day one?

J u s t   d o   i t .
Whether it’s organizing a sewing space or picking up the scissors, jump in and go!

Many thanks to all of the brave souls who have joined me to celebrate the wonderful world of sewing one’s wardrobe and nurturing our creative capabilities. A special thank you also to those cheering us on 😊

Before I get back to work, a little RTW Fast housekeeping:

1.Feel free to use this badge on your blog or social media.

Excuse today’s brevity – I cannot wait to get back to you!
Be back soon.

    Does buying second-time-around clothing disqualify?

    Either way, I’m in.

I would also like to join the RTW fast this year, even though It is likely I won’t have as much sewing time this year as I would like. I still need the inspiration. Hope it is not too late.

What a great idea!! I only discovered your blog today, and wish that I could commit to sewing a garment a week, but my husband and I are currently renovating our house and the sewing time commitment is just not in stars for me at this time. But I am going to commit to not buying any RTW clothes, and will sew as many garments as I possibly can. I am very interested to see what other sewists out there can do! Good luck to everyone!

I know it is too late to officially join, but I will be joining you on the sidelines. I don’t blog, don’t use face book anymore nor do I Instagram. I’ve already started by making my husband’s underbriefs, next will be his t-shirts, then his outer shorts.. And then I’ll go the same for me. I think I have enough fabric to last a year, but of course I won’t be taking any chances. Emmaonesock has become my favorite online fabric store. So good luck everyone.

I’m so excited to start as well! This group has already been extremely helpful even before getting started. Since the “heads up” about checking our Facebook default email, I delved into that and discovered a BIG mess! My business email, which hasn’t been used in a very long time, was the default setting. When trying to reset the default to the email I use every day, there was a problem. So, HOPEFULLY Facebook will get on it quickly so that I can be “IN” and not miss a beat. Sometimes technology can be a detriment!
Happy sewing everyone and looking forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful makes! IF and only IF Facebook resolves this issue.

I signed up over a week ago and got an email saying that I would soon be receiving an invitation to the facebook group, but that invitation did not come in. What is the name of the facebook group so that I can search it up on Facebook and send a request to join? Maybe it’ll work that way.

I completely understand. I will absolutely be a cheerleader in spirit! Maybe those who have blogs would allow you to post links to their blogs for the cheerleaders on the sidelines? If not, no worries, we’ll still be cheering them on!

YES! I started today. SEW excited! A friend of mine who has also joined the Fast lost her husband 5 months ago. We spent the day together working on a muslin for her. I also pretreated fabric for a cardigan for my daughter. Don’t worry…I’ll be sewing for myself soon!!

I have spent the rwo previous
days in hand to hand combat with my coverstitch machine. By actually following the instructions to the letter, downloading them and enlarging them on my computer screen SUCESS
So, I started a poncho, need to redo the seams on a pair if pants from a Great Copy pattern I got at the free table at ASG because there is enough ease for a circus tent. My how patterns have changed, Then it’s straight on to my beloved Flat Bottom Flo Style Arc pants (and others too) until I have enough. I just retired and lawyer clothes are no longer suitable for my new lifestyle.
The timing if this is perfect!!!

I, also, have not seen the invitation to join the FB group. I checked my FB account and it is set to one email, and I gave you the second one. I have a ghost FB account with that second email and have asked FB how to delete the ghost account so I can change the email so that this will work.

In the meantime, thank you for your patient leadership on this. I am stoked to be in this RTW fast as I have done a couple in the past. Once you do this you’ll get hooked.

I just found out about this today, so my RTW Fast still has 365 days to go. The last garment I bought was my teen daughter’s Easter dress (the first year I haven’t sewn one for her), and a few weeks earlier some tops for my Spring holiday…that all fit Daughter better than they do me, so I could say none of my wardrobe was purchased in 2018, but I’ll still try to consciously fast from purchasing clothes for a full 12 months. My husband’s been asking recently, if my stash might possibly shrink any time soon. Hopefully, this challenge will whittle down my “collection”. About a month ago, pulling out my spring clothes, it dawned on me that if I could only wear clothes I made, it would mean all skirts and dresses, which are my least favorite options! It’s been years since I’ve finished a pair of pants for myself, but now I’m doubly motivated to tackle them!
