Are you still there?
I hope so because I have a fabulous giveaway to announce – Susan Khalje is generously donating her newly released French Jacket Video class to one lucky winner!
It’s true! Susan brings her lifetime of experience in to this video course, offering advice that you cannot get anywhere else.
Included in the package are:
-
A Custom Jacket Pattern Designed by Susan Khalje Sent Directly to Your Doorstep
-
Instant Access to Full Length Step-by-Step Instructions
-
High Definition Streaming Video on Multiple Platforms and Devices
Instructions are provided for a patterned and a solid jacket in two different courses providing thorough and careful instruction to learn at your own pace at any time, for three years.
The Classic French Jacket course is offered in high definition and can be viewed on your computer at home, your tablet while working in your studio or even your smart phone while on the go.
I had the good fortune to take Susan’s class in October of 2013 which was a life changing experience in sewing terms. Susan introduced me to techniques I never knew existed, and gracefully guided me through the process.
I loved the jacket so much that I completed the look with a skirt, and have already purchased the new class knowing I’ll never go wrong with Susan Khalje by my side.
Check out RTW Fasters, Julie Starr’s and Cissie Wellon’s beautiful French jackets they made with Susan Here and Here.
To enter the giveaway, simple leave a comment. The winner will be announced on Saturday, August 1st.

Posted at 08:07h, 29 JulyFound your blog when a I returned to sewing and love following your own sewing experiences especially the tips and tricks learnt in the Susan Khalije classes you attended. .
You have a great sense of style and looked so stunning in the French style jacket ( and skirt) that you made that I rushed out and bought a length of beautiful fabric for myself to make an similar outfit,. The fabric has remained uncut as ai have been too scared to cut it in case as made a mistake,! So I would love the opportunity to follow Susan’s French Style pattern and video and turn the fabric into a lovely jacket for myself..
Thank you for the opportunity to enter and good luck with your new project.

Posted at 08:47h, 29 JulyThis would be perfect. I wanted to make a Chanel style jacket, but thought I would practice doing a vest first. I had a piece of beautiful white wool boucle that I only have a yard of, so thus the vest. I had put it off until I found the lining, and stumbled across a silk scarf I had but never worn, perfect. Then it was spring, and I didn’t want to be sewing wool. So this would be perfect. .

However, thanks to your blog, I’m slowly getting to grips with myself and have made a few things recently. The French jacket giveaway would be a lovely project to sink my teeth into and prove to myself I can still do it!

Posted at 09:51h, 29 JulyHi Sarah!
I always enjoy your blogs and believe it to be the best one I’ve discovered! I’ve made a couple of the Chanel style jackets on my own but I need guidance in order to make a really good one. Since I live in Casa de Campo, Dominican Republic, I have lots of spare time but there aren’t any classes available locally. This would be a great opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills needed. And, even though I won’t win, I’m not lucky that way, I will probably purchase this class and attempt another jacket. I hope it turns out as lovely as yours!

Posted at 09:57h, 29 JulyHope to be going to Paris soon. Would love to have the video to assist me in making a beautiful jacket with my finding from there. Your perfect rendering is an inspiration to me. I did the Marfy jacket sew-along on A Challenging Sew, but want to do the hand quilted version also.

Posted at 09:57h, 29 JulyThe French jacket is such a classic – elegant, simple, dressy it covers it all.

Posted at 10:02h, 29 JulySusan Kahlje is very generous. Your jacket is spectacular. This would be the perfect beginning until I am able to attend a Susan Kahlje class in person once I am retired! Thanks for the opportunity.

Posted at 10:02h, 29 JulyWhat a beautiful job! Both the jacket and skirt look fabulous. I have always wanted to take one of Susan’s classes. Although I have many years of sewing experience, there is always something new to learn and it is great that technology brings the knowledge to us in a way that did not exist when I started out. Let’s celebrate sewing!

Rebecca Abadie
Posted at 10:06h, 29 JulyI will join the multitudes in saying that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be the lucky winner of this class! I have taken Susan’s Craftsy class, read her books, followed her various students’ blog posts, taken both Craftsy’s and PR’s French jacket classes and made 3 jackets so far. I still need to fine tune my skills and fitting and would love to take this class. If I don’t win, I will wait until I’m done paying college tuition for my children before I sign up for this class.
Katie Raschdorf

Posted at 10:08h, 29 JulyYour Jacket with matching skirt is really lovely. I would love to win this DVD, as I have wanted to take a class from Susan for ages. Unfortunately, I am retired, and live in the Pacific Northwest, so the possibility of that actually happening is pretty remote. My age(82) and income preclude an expenditure like a class would take.. I’m still sewing though, so perhaps one of these days I’ll get lucky!
Your website/blog is great and I love it!
Jana Duplantis
Posted at 10:09h, 29 JulyI have been so excited about this class since Susan Khalje decided to produce sewing videos. I have already purchased fabric and have been waiting. I’d be so excited to win!

I too am a Susan Khalje fan–after taking her couture dress class on Craftsy. My dress is not yet finished, but my muslin is complete. Luckily, the skills and information I learned in that class transcends the dress project and allows me to create professional well-fitting garments.

Posted at 11:05h, 29 JulyAlthough embroidery is my business, fashion sewing is my first love. I would love to win this class because to me sewing a Chanel-inspired jacket would be the ultimate project. I have very little time now to devote to fashion sewing and I am discriminating in what I choose to sew. I love Chanel and have since middle school when I studied French and did a report on Coco Chanel. To me, sewing a Chanel-inspired jacket would be labor of love.

Andrea Birkan
Posted at 12:31h, 29 JulyYour jacket looks fabulous. I took the class in May and my jacket was a disaster. I do not have a symmetrical body and Susan pinned my sleeves in and the one side of the jacket was wider than the other. The fabric had been cut on the inside for the piece that fits in the sleeve so I could not selvedge the fronts of the jacket. I had to order more fabric from Alice at Mendel Goldberg and she very kindly sold me 2yds of the jacket fabric and the lining fabric for the price of 1yd. This has been the most expensive jacket I have ever made. I would like to win this video to see if I can do a better job of the jacket on my own.
Robin Walston

Posted at 13:28h, 29 JulyOh, yes please! I would love to have an opportunity to win Susan’s class. I purchased my first serger from a woman who actually knows Susan personally, I had always hoped that through the theory of six degrees of separation I would have the opportunity to meet her. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened. And then there are all those other things I have in common with Susan, we’re both named Susan, we have the same initials SK, we have a friend in common, and we both follow your journey through the wonderful world of sewing 🙂 Seriously, I would absolutely love to win Susan’s Classic French Jacket course. Posted at 14:18h, 29 JulyWouldn’t we all love to be the winner of this exciting class. I especially would as I have a piece of Donnegal tweed that my mother brought back over 15 years ago from Ireland. It was her plan to make a skirt and knit a matching sweater. The sweater got completed and well worn but the skirt was waiting for “the special time”. Now that she is 94 she doesn’t think she needs a fancy skirt so the fabric is mine. Since I just returned from 14 days in Ireland, also visiting Donnegal, I would love to make this my fall project!! There is just enough fabric (I hope) for a classic Channel jacket!

Posted at 16:56h, 29 JulyHi there Sarah and Susan too,
Thank you so much for offering us all this rare opportunity. I have taken Susan’s Couture Dress course on Craftsy and it was invaluable when tackling a Marfy dress for myself last year. So many techniques, hints and tips made sure the dress looked Handmade. Living in the U.K. means it would be rather difficult to meet Susan in person, although, you feel like you are in her sewing room when you watch her!. Many of us know that we are truly receiving sound solid professional advice that helps us achieve the finish and results we have yearned for.
I have to own up to having made a chanel style jacket for my daughter, using Threads articles by Susan and books on the subject by other sewists. I would love to make one for myself as a treat and see if I did the first one correctly!! Following Susan’s online video course would be tremendous .

Should I win this fabulous package, with will run, not walk back to this fantastic store for this fabric!

Posted at 03:25h, 31 JulyGoo Afternoon, Sarah,
Thank you for your always-delightful posts and, in the latest one, the invitation to submit a comment in order to be “in the running” to win Susan Khalje’s “Classic French Jacket” video class.
It would be absolute bliss to win this wonderful prize!! After having been inspired by your success with the French jacket class, I armed myself with some lovely apple green boucle wool and a complementing Valentino (yes, really!!) silk for the lining. I have Claire Shaeffer’s Vogue pattern for a French jacket and two of her books on couture sewing. One would think, surely, that these would be more than enough to get me going on the production of my very own French-style jacket. The problem is………NERVES! Nerves that I will wreck my treasured fabrics, not achieve the desired fit, not affix the braid correctly……..the list goes on.
I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, so attending one of Susan’s classes is practically beyond the realms of possibility. To have Susan and her video class right here on my computer, in my sewing room, with her superb knowledge and instructional skills would be like a dream come true. Truly bliss. Fingers crossed!!

Posted at 01:07h, 01 AugustYour jacket and skirt look great. I have so enjoyed watching your sewing journey and seeing your skills improve right before my eyes. Not only have your sewing skills improved but you seem to have developed a much more confident and fun way of putting fabrics together to give your clothes a much more professional look. It’s been fun to see several different versions of the same pattern with a completely different feel to them because of the design decisions you’ve made. You are a real inspiration.
