New Inspiration and an Arctic Blast Giveaway

11 Feb New Inspiration and an Arctic Blast Giveaway

If only I had waited a year before making this dress I could have had this new Vogue pattern right at my fingertips – LOL 😉

IMG_0106

Maybe you remember when I made this dress last January 2015.

akris-punto-long-sleeve-colorblock-shift-dress-original-230664 Inspired by an Akris Punto dress on the Neiman Marcus website for $995, (photo above) I altered a pattern to achieve a similar look.

The new collection of Vogue Patterns now offers the Akris Punto knockoff in full minus the pockets. I really love the set-in sleeves along with the rounded hemline, and plan to give it a try in a different color combo for another all-occasion dress! Would you believe I wore mine to dinner just last night (with boots and tights, not slides!)?

Dear Readers,

Thank you so much for your kind comments following my last post. I found them extremely comforting and heartwarming upon experiencing such sadness.

In appreciation, I’m hosting an Arctic Blast Giveaway featuring this 1.5 yard piece of Faux Fur from Mood Fabrics.

 fur

I intended to sew a shrug for Mimi with the solid white faux fur to wear as an exit piece with her wedding dress. Due to the unforeseen circumstances I experienced, I didn’t make it and I rented a fur. Yes, I rented a fur.

Mimi leaving

To be entered into the furry-giveaway, simply leave a comment. The random winner will be announced on Sunday, Valentine’s Day!

Good luck and lots of love 🙂 🙂 🙂

Well, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! Renting a fur for Mimi was what a great mom would do so that she would be able to have her baby girl leave her special event in style – at whatever cost 🙂 Would love to make the fur into a wrap for all of our Mardi Gras events down here in Mobile, Alabama. Yes, it does get cold down here in January and February. Condolences on the passing of your father. I’ll bet you were a daddy’s girl 🙂 Take care.

I had a Liz Claiborne dress purchased in 1990s that was very similar to this. Always loved it.
I need this fur to keep me warm in NH> 26 degrees today and going down this weekend.

I think renting a fur was very eco friendly, as is gifting the faux fur you no longer have plans for! I’m seeing a gorgeous winter white wool coat with a furry white collar, maybe vogue 8841…

25 years ago I made myself a fake fur ‘exit’ cape for my own October wedding. Ok, actually it was mostly white fleece with fake fur trim. But we had an incredibly warm October here in Vancouver (Canada) that year and the cape was not needed. Guests were in sleeveless dresses, dancing up a storm on the outdoor patio, as I recall. I think I cut up the cape to make baby things a few years later. 🙂

It is cold in Battle Creek this week, and I have a granddaughter who would love a wrap made from this faux fur. While beginning college she is working at the local Humane Society in the effort to find forever homes for the dogs and cats…and this fabric would be the kind of fur she would choose for her personal warmth.

This is a generous act…sharing the connection of kindred spirits in every way. Millie

Having just lost my mom to a very debilitating illness in November I can with all of my heart understand and empathize how your feelings ebbed between sadness for the loss of your father and and the joy of the marriage of your beautiful daughter. Great intentions can often be sidelined and even though a lovely faux fur shrug was not sewn by you, the rented fur was definitely a display of love and affection for your daughter. Giving the faux fur away is just another sign of your kindness and generosity. A piece of faux fur would be a warm addition to a Wisconsinite’s winter wardrobe! My deepest sympathy to you and congratulations on the marriage of your daughter.

This idea of a faux fur shrug/bolero has taken up residence in my head too. It’s a shame you couldn’t finish your daughter’s for the her wedding.
I was debating to buy a faux fur throw from a homewares store once, because it was strangely more economical than buying the same amount of fabric from any of our fabric stores here in Sydney.

You have perhaps heard about Promenade Fine Fabrics in New Orleans. They have recently started a web site (www.promenadefinefabrics.com), with mainly but not entirely dressy fabrics. They are all beautiful. Not cheap, but doubtless good value for the money. Even if you don’t need anything dressy, take a look at the web site. You will enjoy it, I promise. I have ordered, and the goods came promptly and well wrapped’ I think that you could order with confidence. This is really an extraordinary collection of fabrics.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a piece of faux fur from you stash…. What a wise idea to give it away!!!Please enter me in the random drawing. I just returned from a big give away of my own. 4 tubs of fabric from both my stash and my Mom’s stash… Some of my mothers was hard to give up… the 2 yards of wool from St Andrews in Scotland….but since she is 94 and her color of blue is not quite the same as mine and she was a lover of polyester I donated the whole kit and caboodle to Our Fabric Stash in Seattle WA. It will go to someone else to enjoy!!. Love the color block dress it looks great on you!

I am glad to see there is a pattern for the color blocked dress now. I made one also last year by cobbling together a few patterns. I worked on the dress off and on for about three weeks. The first time I washed it, the black faded into the white and made it a wadder! So much for all my hard work. But I really do like the dress and will have to look for this pattern. Thank you for alerting us on this!

Amen to designer knockoffs! I would love to win that beautiful fur! I’m in Boston right now, and I’m loving my fur-lined-hood coat! It’s like a coat, scarf, hat, and earmuffs all in one 🙂

I love your black and white dress. I think I may copy. I would love the faux fur to make a shrug for my granddaughter. I bought her one when she was 6 and she has outgrown it. Surprisingly my little princess wore it often. I hope I win.

How exciting! I loved this dress when you made your version…now I can just be my lazy sewing self and use the Vogue pattern…lol! Not a fan of the high low hemline, though…in the picture, she reminds me of a bug! Will consider maybe some side on-seam pockets, though – I think I’d miss pockets in this dress!
