New Blogroll & a Thrift

26 Jun New Blogroll & a Thrift

Blogging has expanded my life unlike any other undertaking due to the many connections I’ve made – real life and virtual.

Goodbye Valentino links to nearly two hundred sewing blogs through the Mood Sewing Network, the RTW Fasters’ Page, the BurdaStyle 2014 Bloggers, and now my new Blogroll located at the top of the page.

In addition to filling in the gaps with a new Blogroll, I’m writing today to introduce you to two bloggers – one very new, and one new to me 😉

Maybe you already read Featherstitch Avenue. If not, read it.

Alabama Chanin Parts 2 and 3

The blog was created in February 2015  by Tracey Hogan, one of my classmates in a Susan Khalje course and her husband, Santiago, a professional photographer. Featherstitch Avenue’s weekly posts feature stunning photography, edgy clothing sewn by Tracey and authentic narratives.  In the photograph above, Tracey is modeling her latest Alabama Chanin creation.

The second blog which is new to me is Creating in the Gap.

Creating in the Gap

Margo, it’s creator has been blogging for three years, and I’ve missed it! Margo’s style is one I identify with. Her outdoor photography is lovely and her posts feature completed clothing and to the point text.

Most of the blogs I’ve listed are ones I’ve been reading for a while, but I’m always happy to learn about more! Feel free to share with me those sewing blogs I’ve overlooked that inspire you. While 200 links seems like  a lot, I am sure I’ve only scratched the surface. 😉

In closing I’m sharing an easy summer thrifting project. Have you seen the cute aprons made from men’s shirts?

image

They are great church bazaar items, hostess gifts etc… After seeing one in a retail kitchen store for $50, I got busy 😉

Not that you need one, but several tutorials are available on Pinterest –  here’s one featuring different options.

The contrast ties might be more effective slightly larger – another time perhaps, as now……  it’s time to start sewing – I mean cooking 🙂

Best wishes to all for a great weekend!

Cute apron! But isn’t it too hot to cook? That’s what I keep saying around here.

I’ve been in a couple of classes with Tracy and find her lovely and charming, with a very unique sense of style. Glad you recommended her blot. The photography alone is worth the visit.

Now to check out “creating in the gap’.

That apron is so great! Besides sewing, I bake, especially at this time of year (in spite of the heat) because I love a good fruit pie 🙂 so I just might have to whip up an apron or two. Love the idea!

Oh my gosh Sarah, I have to have one of these aprons! Yours is absolutely adorable! I’ll be so glad when I retire in a few short weeks so I can spend more time blogging and sewing! Work has been so crazy busy over the last few years and it’s almost taken away my passion of Sewing… I cannot let that happen! So I’m taking my…So I’m taking my hubbies advice and taking the plunge!

What an original and clever idea these aprons are, Sarah! I can’t wait to raid the rarely worn shirts around here. They’re just right for when you want to give a handmade gift and not have to deal with size. I’ve followed Margo for a while now and along with loving her style, I am always struck by the quality of her photos. There’s just something about the lighting that she always gets just right. Thanks for steering me to Featherstitch….Tracy has been added to my blog roll. I already have Alabama Chanin envy.

I wish I could claim the idea as my own, but I’m not that clever 😉 I don’t know how I’ve missed Margo for the past few years, but am glad to have finally discovered her. Many thanks for the comment, Julie!
