Introducing the 2015 RTW Fasters!

09 Jan Introducing the 2015 RTW Fasters!

This year the 2015 RTW Fasters are going at it alone, but I would hardly call them a ship without a rudder!

2015 Goodbye Valentino RTW Fast

It is truly a thrill to sponsor this group of new and returning RTW Fasters on the blog.

Why sew rather than buy clothes for one year?

I started my first Ready to Wear Fast in 2011 to save money, but the RTW Fast led me on an interesting journey of self discovery and enlightenment. No doubt I improved my sewing skills, but the fast led me to experiment with new styles and colors, develop a sense of discipline and a sense of freedom. I emerged as a more thoughtful consumer and yes, I saved a lot of money too 😉

My second RTW Fast was more of a challenge due to time constraints and pre-determined garments, but I successfully completed the year.

I congratulate this diverse group of women who share a common goal, and know their journeys will be unique.  A special congratulations to the women returning for a third fast who are noted on the 2015 RTW Fasters’ page!

You are invited to follow their sewing experiences HERE and cheer them on through the year!

Until soon 🙂

I have already completed a really wild, bold skirt. Will post pics when I get the top done. Otherwise, it looks pretty crazy.

I’m almost finished with my first outfit for 2015. My goal is to take the time to post as projects are finished… which I didn’t do last year.

All the best to you ladies. I enjoyed doing the fast last year as it forced me to boost my wardrobe in the midst of sewing for a myriad of clients. This year, I have some huge projects planned, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to commit, but I will get a few pieces made for a few events I’ll be attending. Thank you for your support and for the inspiration. Peace!

Sarah, I started following your blog during your first ready to wear fast.

Last year you motivated me to start a fast of my own…sorely disappointed by the quality of ready made clothes along with a small yearly clothing budget, I began buying clothes only at thrift stores, etsy, eBay, etc. I was able to buy designer clothes both recent and vintage of the highest quality and classic styling at a fraction of their cost.

Last November my world expanded with your cashmere refashion. I had recently purchased a like new Ralph Lauren cashmere tunic sweater for $4.99 that was too big. This month I plan to refashion the sweater using your blog as I guide. I would love to expand my sewing ability to include more alterations and refashioning.

Thanks to you and all the RTW fasters for inspiring me…who knows where it will lead!

Is it too late to sign up for the 2015 RTW fast? Can’t sew until March but have lots planned!

Would love for you to sign up! The point is NOT to shop for one year and SEW your clothes instead. Send your email to goodbyevalentino@gmail.com

I would love to join in officially, I kind of have a lifelong commitment to this, and this year I am also not buying any new fabric that isn’t grown and made within a 500km radius. To make an outfit. All other sewing will be from the stash or sourced second hand. I think the two challenges work nicely together 🙂

    I’d love to join!

I started doing this towards the end of last year. In fact, last year, I only purchased one pair of pants for myself. I want to get back to designing/sewing all my own clothing again. I used to do that in my twenties and early thirties.

I love to sew, but I normally end up sewing for family or making costumes for various theater productions. It’s a shame really, I have several lovely machines.

Well, towards the end of last year, I said I need to bring myself into that equation. I rarely purchase items for myself, because I’m super picky. Since my commitment, I’ve already made two outfits for myself and I’m working on a knit maxi dress over my three-day weekend.
