Pfaff Metal Embroidery Hoops

11 Jun Pfaff Metal Embroidery Hoops

Greetings!

On July 11th I will tape three more episodes in Cleveland for the PBS series, It’s Sew Easy, and I’m hard at work preparing garment projects and scripts. The scripts are certainly the more difficult of the two since there is no teleprompter and retakes are not encouraged. Plus I want to sound natural……… but not too southern…………high expectations I realize 😂

In the meantime I received the most nifty embroidery accessories from Pfaff – Metal Embroidery Hoops and  Inspira stabilizers. The hoops included the Grand Metal Hoop (240 x 150mm) and the Petite Metal Hoop (100×100 mm)

These hoops are designed to accommodate awkwardly sized or finished products that can be tricky for placement. The embroidery subjects are secured to the hoops with magnets – the strongest magnets I’ve every worked with.

In the photo below I’ve taken my picture in the reflection of an all clad pan suspended to a business card with two magnets ……

and here the magnets are suspending a heavy picture frame.

After watching a YouTube video about the hoops, I choose to embroider a few yoga mats for gifts, and I love the results.

Placing the mats on the hoops looked like this:

The first photo shows the pink mat laid over the hoop to make sure the placement is correct. Afterwards I added a filmy stabilizer on top of the mat shown in the next photo (blue mat).

I used a leather needle to embroider the mats and stabilized them on both the top and bottom. The bottom stabilizer is Tear & Wash. Although I don’t plan to wash the mats, it was perfect for the project. I used Coats and Clark Trilobal Polyester Embroidery Threads for all of the mats.

Experimenting with different monogram placements, I tried to keep the subtle nature of yoga in mind.

The metal hoops are right up my alley as I often buy or receive items that I’m tempted to monogram but cannot. When I finished the yoga mats, I couldn’t resist putting a cork bottle bag I received under the needle.

So I’ve been enlightened – I’ve discovered most any soft surface can easily be embroidered or monogrammed – all you need are the proper supplies.  Many thanks to Pfaff  – Click here to follow Pfaff’s Instagram feed of daily inspiration!

Let the southern drawl roll……. I’m an Ohioan permanently retired in South Carolina. Loved the southern accent when we were in Ohio, and still love it now that we live in SC.

😂 Maybe I’m too hard on myself, but it’s easy to sound twangy. The drawl….. OK, the twang……. Gotta Go!
      Many thanks for the comment.

Did you open the seams on the bag to monogram it?

Good Luck in Ohio at It’s Sew Easy TV! I just wrote a post about me experience there! My experience was not as successful as yours; I had unrealistic expectations of getting to a great video about Sashiko. However— I met you and Lynn, Joanne Banko and other great Sewists so that was WONDERFUL! I am so glad we met! xo, E

Ellen ~ I had prior television experience before It’s Sew Easy, but I was generally interviewed on local news programs. Anyhow I learned a little about the lights, camera, action process. Meeting you and the ladies was the icing on the cake for sure!

Can you believe how your life has changed because you started a blog? Books, tv appearances, traveling, new friends. You are very blessed. Love your blog, book, and previous “It’s Sew Easy” appearances and looking forward to new book and episodes.
As a Clevelander, I am glad you are coming back when our weather will be more “friendly”. February in Cleveland can be rough which is why when it hits 40 degrees, Clevelanders are wearing shorts and sandals. 😄. You’ll be here when the Tall Ships Festival is beginning on the North Coast Harbor.
Thanks for all you do for us. Take care, Sarah.

      Rita,
Just three days ago I asked my husband the same questions! I’ve always been a firm believer in expanding my horizons and embracing new experiences, and you’re right I am so very blessed.
I’m hoping to stay over in Cleveland for the weekend. I want to visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Museum of Art and catch a symphony performance at Blossom. In researching events I came across the Tall Ships Festival. Is this something you recommend ?
      Many thanks!

Love watching your segments on “It’s Sew Easy.” In my opinion, you do not sound “too
Southern.” But then, I am from rural Guilford County, NC.

Putting monograms on everything is certainly not too Southern, lol.

Putting monograms on everything is…………. well…………… it’s the right thing to do😉

There are apps that you can download that turn your phone or tablet into a teleprompter. You might want to try experimenting with an iPad, Kindle fire or other tablet that can be propped up.

The apps sound amazing! I’ll check them out😉 Thanks for the tip!

I’ve seen you on It’s Sew Easy. I was flipping through channels and stopped on the PBS sewing show and saw you. I know that Lady! I’ve been reading her blog for years. You were wonderful and I liked the southern accent best. Being from California many say we don’t have an accent or people who say we do will attempt a mock Surfer Dude lingo. I am going to keep a lookout for you on I’t Sew Easy and learn from you there too.

They look great! And I feel better about these seeing them in this post. On IG, all I saw was the monogram–and as a serious yoga practitioner, I thought, “I wouldn’t want to feel that under my foot.” But you’ve cleverly placed the monograms at the edge–whew!

I love your monogramming on yoga mats, a wonderful idea. I would have never considered such a thick item, or using a leather needle. Thank you for the tips! As for the southern accent, don’t ever change. I have moved so much that I don’t have as much of an accent as I did as a child. That is until I go to New England. We did go out west last year and a shop clerk pointed to my monogrammed handbag and said I must be from the South because no one monograms anything out West. We had a good laugh at that.

Monograms need to head across the Mississippi 😂
As for the yoga mats, I embroidered the lightweight mats vs the thick ones. I imagine the leather needle would have worked on both however.
Many thanks for your comment, Molly!
