16 Mar MSN / Face the Lace

I'm still here at the resort. _______________________________ Lots of news at the Mood Sewing Network! For starters, Mood has added four new bloggers to the network bringing the total to twelve. Lori from Girls in the Garden Lauren from LLadybird Peter from Male Pattern Boldness Haley from Threaded I applaud Mood for continuing to expand the Network with creative diversity. Each of the eleven other MSN bloggers offers a unique style of photography, writing, sewing, fashion and overall character, providing ongoing inspiration to me and hopefully you! _________________________ Did you know during the month of March, the MSN bloggers (minus the 2 newest) have accepted a lace challenge? 14 Feb What I Did For Love

My sewing goal for this post was to make two pairs of Style Arc’s Elle Pants from fabric I bought over a year ago inspired by Robin of A Little Sewing. The fabrics are a hi-tech matte hybrid in chocolate-brown and red. I made the pants in black last year, blogged here. For some reason I asked my husband’s opinion about making the pants………. “Make  a dress out of the red fabric, like the one you had at the beach,” Hubby was referring to his favorite dress pattern. Of all the dresses I’ve made this is his favorite. “But Cissie, one of the RTW...

09 Feb A Movement?

I am thrilled, elated and joyous that the RTW Fast is catching on. Could  become a movement? In late September I was informed by a reader that the day after I completed my RTW Fast, a sew-a-long inspired by my 1 year challenge started on the Pattern Review website in my absence, with many citing me as their inspiration. I was quite moved to say the least. Just last week I learned Pattern Therapy along with thirteen other women are hosting a year-long challenge for home sewers who want to commit to ONE YEAR of sewing to build their wardrobe. The challenge is to avoid purchasing clothing beginning...

13 Jan Le temps de nettoyage!

My sewing room looks like an absolute war zone. From pictures knocked off the wall to a floor covered with everything and anything. Would you believe my calendar is still showing August 2011? I started sewing my own clothes on August 31st, 2011 and never looked up. Some might describe this sewing frenzy over the last 16 months as enthusiasm, which it was, but to me it's more like I was possessed by making clothes. I truly thought of little else and it shows all around my house.   I'm ready to leave the mess behind and sew in an organized space. This week...

22 Dec December to Remember

Snazzy Sew 'n' Sew got her Sewing Mojo back. Cissie continues to inspire us all and Jilly's hand has healed. As for the title of my post - I got that from Barbara Dean; her words not mine. The RTW Fasters "behind the scenes" rapport is nothing short of inspirational to me.   Other than providing support for anyone who wanted to give up buying clothes for a year, my vision for the page was pretty loose. With the help of Google Groups, these ladies communicate with each other all the time sharing tips, seeking advice and support. Christmas is not only...

12 Dec Thanks, Cherry Pix !

While waiting for my latest garment post to be published by Mood, I received a lovely surprise! The very clever and always witty Cherry Pix nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blog/One Lovely Blogger award!  Many thanks Cherry Pix!       I know I’m in for a little chuckle whenever a comment or post lands in my mailbox from Cherry Pix. I’ve even thought about sending her my post before publishing because she always finds the punch line I wish I had thought of….. clever thing. She sews well too ;)  ________________________________ The rules of this lovely award are as follows: 1. Thank the person...

14 Nov Happy Birthday to Me!

Wow! Monday was my birthday and look where I am. My sweet hubby invited me to accompany him on a quick business trip to New York and I spent yesterday at Mood Fabrics.  In addition to striking up a new friendship with Swatch, the Mood Fabrics dog, I met two of my favorite sewing bloggers, Oonaballoona and Marina from Frabjous Couture.  I met Eric, one of the owners of Mood, and I met Joe, an employee who was immensely helpful. I also took  l o t s  of pictures of my Mood experience……the fabrics, the accessories and most importantly the lovely people I met. Hmmmmm………… While...

01 Nov WILL YOU EVER SAY NEVER?

I  w i l l . I will never buy a wrap dress again. This is the fourth wrap dress I’ve made since January and there is no reason to fork out the big bucks, or even ‘bargain’ bucks again for one of my favorite styles. I completed my one-year RTW Fast on August 31st and finally found my way into a dress shop in October. I bought the black sweater I promised myself 10 months ago after repairing moth holes in my trusty black cardigan during the fast, but as soon as I carefully examined a couple of $300.00 wrap dresses,...

28 Oct Lucky 13

Maybe it’s just my love of Halloween surfacing, but I often believe the number 13 gets a bad rap. Today I added the 13th committed person to the RTW Fasters’ page and decided it was time for an update.  These 13 women represent a diverse geographic area including three countries and several states scattered from Florida to California. They have been communicating about topics important to them as they sew themselves away from the retail madness, but more importantly they are sewing beautiful clothes. Linda, living in a warm climate resists the t-shirts and crops scene, and recently completed this crisp periwinkle...
