25 Nov Formal Desperation

There’s a first time for everything, and I let a formal event on November 23rd sneak up on me, in that I had nothing to wear. I planned on wearing my daughter’s dress but waited until Thanksgiving night to try it on and it wasn’t a pretty picture. Frantically rummaging through every closet in the house, I stumbled upon this sequined dress I bought in 1994. I’ve been hoping to shrink back into it, but desperate times call for desperate measures and out came the scissors and a roll of Steam-a-Seam. I cut nine inches off of the dress and placed Steam-a-Seam...

24 Nov It Ain’t Nothing but a Houndstooth

14 Nov Happy Birthday to Me!

Wow! Monday was my birthday and look where I am. My sweet hubby invited me to accompany him on a quick business trip to New York and I spent yesterday at Mood Fabrics.  In addition to striking up a new friendship with Swatch, the Mood Fabrics dog, I met two of my favorite sewing bloggers, Oonaballoona and Marina from Frabjous Couture.  I met Eric, one of the owners of Mood, and I met Joe, an employee who was immensely helpful. I also took  l o t s  of pictures of my Mood experience……the fabrics, the accessories and most importantly the lovely people I met. Hmmmmm………… While...

I might be stretching the meaning here, but my new garments certainly bring the word to mind for they were partially obtained gratuitously……. and I do consider those couple inches of extra...

01 Nov WILL YOU EVER SAY NEVER?

I  w i l l . I will never buy a wrap dress again. This is the fourth wrap dress I’ve made since January and there is no reason to fork out the big bucks, or even ‘bargain’ bucks again for one of my favorite styles. I completed my one-year RTW Fast on August 31st and finally found my way into a dress shop in October. I bought the black sweater I promised myself 10 months ago after repairing moth holes in my trusty black cardigan during the fast, but as soon as I carefully examined a couple of $300.00 wrap dresses,...
