Oh my goodness. I thought this would be sooooo simple – loose fitting, no zippers, darts or buttonholes.
I know it’s not the Milly top I posted, but I like it. My mother gave me the silk over 10 years ago, and I used a New Look pattern which I bought last year but never made.
The Lessons……….
- From Cal Patch – measure and make a “muslin” for fitting purposes. I’m so glad I did this because I did make some simple fitting alterations such as adding two inches to the length
- From the muslin I decided to use elastic with fabric extensions rather than running a ribbon through the neck casing length.
- Also from Cal Patch – I love, love, love the “faux” French seams for seam finishing!
- Investing the time to make my own bias tape from the silk fabric for the neckline was an unexpected pain but worth it.
I have a new respect for the work behind the Milly tops I thought would be simple to make, for I have a long way to go!
This is when one of my favorite quotes pops into mind. “ I am still learning.” Michelangelo … at age 81
